Challenger/Rosen's® for Residents
Comprehensive Reference, Review, and Assessment Resource for Emergency Medicine Residents

Recall, Reinforcement, and Retention
of Learning
Challenger has the solution to your learning and testing needs...
Practicing professionals learn in different ways. Some may read an article once and recall the content without effort; that is a rare talent, much like having perfect musical pitch or a knack for picking up languages. As a result, most learners use repetition and memorization to retain new information. Challenger has built a testing and training system based on a formal version of this approach called programmed learning. However, another segment of professionals learn in a different manner. They combine exposure to challenging questions and answers with use of a reference resource. Challenger/Rosen's® specifically addresses the learning requirements of this substantial professional audience.

Challenger/Rosen's® is the Gold Standard review and reference resource for emergency medicine residents preparing for certification or any other test of competency, knowledge, or performance. The course combines programmed learning, high-quality imagery, and powerful pedagogic material to prepare residents for each and every performance hurdle in your demanding specialty. Each special area of learning and competency—from ECG interpretation and acute care radiology to trauma and critical care (and 23 other essential topical areas)—is continually peer-reviewed and adjusted with one goal in mind: protecting you from a lack of adequate preparation for assessments of your knowledge. In short, our continually peer-reviewed material delivers learning and preparation with NO RISK! Serving 15 EM residency programs and one out of every two emergency medicine physicians with a computer, the Challenger emergency medicine library speaks for itself.

99.8% Success Rate
Compared to a mediocre 79% pass rate for certification and recertification...
The overall failure rate remains high. Why? It isn't because physicians don't know their stuff; it's because the examination covers such impossibly broad topics. The test devotes 15% of its content to image interpretations, radiographs, and ECGs. And it requires knowledge of some relatively obscure areas where the standard of care is changing.

Test-taking is a science of its own, but Challenger relies on a proven 100-year-old methodology known as programmed learning to bulletproof you on these tests! Even today, the programmed learning method still yields higher cognitive exam scores in comparison to more fashionable (but less reliable) techniques. Challenger ignores fads and fashions so that we can GUARANTEE your success.

One Stop Solution for Your Exam Preparation
The Gold Standard preparation course for recertification...
Each year, as portions of the prior year's Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (LLSA) programs are incorporated into the boards test updates, they are simultaneously added to Challenger/Rosen's® as well.

Our newest version of Challenger/Rosen's® folds in expert analysis and Key Points from the 2004, 2005, and 2006 LLSA articles. In the future, the initial boards exam and the periodic ConCert exam will reflect the topics and materials from these courses.

Topical Pretests
Narrow your focus by testing your baseline knowledge...
Short on time? Worried about completing the review before the exam? We've got you covered! Challenger/Rosen's® includes topical pretests to help narrow your focus to those areas you need to improve. Spend more time focusing on areas of weakness and less time rifling through the information you already know.

State-of-the-Art Standard of Care Review
A challenging Q&A course, designed by physicians for physicians...
Challenger/Rosen's® combines the new 6th edition of Rosen's Emergency Medicine, the gold-standard reference text for emergency physicians, with Med-Challenger EM, chosen by thousands of emergency medicine residents as the leading review and reference program for boards preparation and their own standard-of-knowledge.

Challenger/Rosen's® provides over 5,000 color images with over 6,000 interactive, boards-style case-focused Q&A. In addition, we offer new content based on the American Heart Association's Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. There is no other comparable peer-reviewed product providing both comprehensive review and the most up-to-date information on standards of care in emergency medicine.

Challenger/Rosen's® delivers complete and accurate state-of-the-art clinical information in 208 chapters covering essential topics of emergency medicine. All content is continually reviewed and updated in conjunction with the prestigious Emergency Medicine faculties at Vanderbilt University and the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. The format emulates ABEM testing methods and lets you navigate the subject material at your own pace.

The Largest Electronic Image Bank in Emergency Medicine
See and interact with images as you study...
Challenger/Rosen's® seamlessly integrates over 5,000 high-resolution images (3,000 color images) throughout the course. This full-color, high-resolution imagery has always been one of the hallmarks of Challenger programs. Every image is assigned to the appropriate standard-of-care topic, and most can be enlarged for detailed examination and observation.

Target Audience
Challenger/Rosen's® is intended for practitioners of Emergency Medicine or clinicians otherwise involved in the diagnosis and treatment of acute or emergent medical problems.

Educational Objectives
The objective of the Med-Challenger continuing medical education program is to provide an interactive review of the knowledge base of acute care and emergency medicine. After completing this course, the participating clinician will be better equipped to:

  • Confidently manage the broad spectrum of acute and emergent medical problems encountered in the practice of primary care and emergency medicine.

  • Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses for patients presenting with acute medical problems of uncertain etiology.

  • Efficiently initiate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for patients presenting with acute medical disorders.

  • Cope effectively with the uncertainty that is inherent in the initial treatment of acute and emergent disorders, effectively stabilizing critical patients while refining the differential diagnosis.

  • Handle efficiently the spectrum of common disorders involving all organ systems. In particular, the physician will be better equipped to resuscitate seriously ill patients and to diagnose and treat acute: cardiovascular disorders; diseases of the eye, ear, nose, throat, skin and soft tissues; endocrinologic disorders; traumatic and environmental injuries; gastrointestinal diseases; gynecologic and obstetric disorders; hematologic and oncologic problems; immunologic, allergic and rheumatologic diseases; infectious diseases; life-threatening signs and symptoms; musculoskeletal disorders; pulmonary diseases; and intoxications and poisonings.

  • Demonstrate mastery of the knowledge and cognitive skills required to achieve objectives 1-5 by scoring at least 80% on all topics studied for CME credit.
