Challenger Releases Unique Womens Health
Care Course Based On Leading Elsevier Text
Memphis, Tennessee, July 7, 2004 - Memphis-based medical education
software firm, Challenger Corporation, today announced the release of
Challenger/Creasy Resnik®, a comprehensive reference, review
and assessment resource in all aspects of women's health care. This
unique integrated reference and review program combines two of the foremost
OBGYN educational products in one synthetic training and reference system.
The intended audience is the roughly 40,000 practicing obstetricians,
gynecologists, and maternal fetal care specialists in the United States,
as well as the 340 residency programs that train them.
Challenger/Creasy Resnik® is the second release in a joint venture
agreement with Philadelphia-based Elsevier, the world's largest medical
and scientific publisher. The collaboration involves the integration
of Challenger's industry-leading electronic training and testing programs
for physicians with a series of major textbooks published by Elsevier.
The combined text and review content enables physicians to train for
various testing criteria, re-certification, and ongoing continuing medical
education (CME) fulfillment. "This new program establishes Challenger
as a leader in educational needs for OBGYN physicians and related sub-specialties,"
observed Laura Goodman-Bryan, Challenger's Chief Operating Officer.
"We are projecting a substantial increase in the OBGYN category market
penetration and in our revenues this year as a result."
Challenger/Creasy Resnik® integrates the foremost textbook
in clinical women's health, Maternal Fetal Medicine: Principles and
Practice®, by Robert Creasy and Robert Resnik, with the newest addition
to the most widely used programmed learning and review curriculum in
medical education, Med-Challenger OBGYN. Developed over the course
of 13 years by a national team of clinical authors and editors, Med-Challenger
courses have become the standard for test preparation in several primary
and acute care specialties. Challenger/Creasy Resnik®, which
focuses on women's health care specialties, covers more than 80 essential
topics in obstetrics and gynecology, and contains over 800 specially
designed Questions and Answers as well as over 1,100 high-quality images
and illustrations. The course was authored by forty academic and practice
specialists, primarily at the Harvard University School of Medicine
and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
"This Challenger/Creasy Resnik® course can improve and expand
the generalist's obstetrics understanding and knowledge to help him
broaden his practice scope and co-management skills. By learning more
maternal fetal medicine principles, he can get more involved in these
patients and overall become a more skilled obstetrician," commented
Editor-in-Chief and Contributing Author, Larry Rand, MD, of Harvard
Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston, MA) and Mount
Sinai School of Medicine and Mount Sinai Hospital (New York, NY). "The
same works in reverse - a maternal fetal medicine specialist, who focuses
mainly on reading and learning about his area of expertise, will benefit
from Med-Challenger OBGYN, where he can review the up to date
principles in his field from time to time," he added. Challenger owns
the world's largest collection of approved electronic CME media with
over 2,400 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other
clinicians rely upon Challenger material to prepare for specialty boards
exams, re-certification, and continuous competency testing to fulfill
ongoing CME requirements, and to provide reference and patient-care
decision support. Challenger products are approved for physician CME
credit through joint sponsorships with several prominent medical schools
and specialty societies.
