Challenger Corporation Issues Unique Toxicology Program for Primary and Emergency Care
Memphis, TN 07/15/03. Memphis-based medical software firm, Challenger Corporation, today announced the rollout of a unique training and continuing medical education (CME) program in toxicology for primary and emergency care clinicians.
Challenger Toxicology will enable the 385,000 practicing American primary care and hospital based physicians, and associated physician extenders, to immediately identify and remedy deficiencies in their ability to diagnose, identify and respond to the effects of toxins, poisons and other life-endangering agents. The author, Jeffrey Bernstein, MD, is Medical Director, Florida Poison Information Center, and Professor of Emergency Medicine, University of Miami School of Medicine.
The program will be available through retail sale to individual emergency physicians, family physicians and internists, pediatricians, and selected physician extenders working in the same clinical environments. Institutional clients of Challenger such as academic residencies, physician licensing programs, and national distributors will also be authorized to deploy the new course. Challenger Toxicology will be accessible both via the Internet and via CD-ROM. Purchasers will also be entitled to 22 hours of AMA Category 1 CME credit jointly sponsored by the University of Miami.
"Challenger Toxicology addresses the specific needs of practicing physicians to be current and prepared for accurate diagnosis of toxic agents", according to Bob Sweeney, Challenger's CEO and President. "Toxicology is one of the major subspecialty competencies required of emergency physicians, so we anticipate strong demand in that specialty area. Also, family physicians, internists, and pediatricians will find the program a stimulating state-of-the-art skills refresher tool. We are delighted to collaborate with the experts at the University of Miami and Florida Poison Center in this endeavor."
Challenger owns the world's largest collection of approved electronic CME media with over 2000 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other clinicians rely upon Challenger material to prepare for specialty board exams, re-certification, and continuous competency testing; to fulfill ongoing CME requirements; and to provide reference and patient-care decision support. Challenger products are approved for physician CME credit through joint sponsorships with several prominent medical schools and specialty societies.
