Challenger Corporation and Elsevier Introduce Unique Publishing Venture

Memphis, TN 12/01/03 – Memphis-based medical training and education firm, Challenger Corporation, announced today the release of Challenger/Rosen'sTM Emergency Medicine. This unique integrated reference and review program combines two of the foremost emergency medicine educational products in one synthetic training and reference system. The release is the outcome of a unique multi-year agreement with Elsevier, Inc., a division of Reed-Elsevier, the world’s largest publisher of medical textbooks and education materials. The collaboration involves the integration of Challenger’s industry-leading electronic training and testing programs for physicians with a series of major textbooks published by Elsevier. Once in production, the combined text and testing content will enable physicians to train for various testing criteria, re-certification, and ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) fulfillment.

The release announced today integrates what most emergency physicians consider to be the gold standard reference work in their profession, Rosen'sTM Emergency Medicine, with the newest edition of the most widely used programmed learning and review course in the specialty, Med-Challenger for Emergency Physicians. The integrated program contains 201 chapters, over 4,200 specially designed Questions and Answers, and over 3,200 high-quality images and illustrations. According to Richard Sobel, MD, MPH, Emergency Medicine Faculty, Emory University School of Medicine, in Atlanta: "Challenger Rosen's Emergency MedicineTM is possibly the most significant training advance in emergency medicine in the last ten years. The specialty is perpetually searching for integrated reference and training content to fully develop the capabilities of physicians in training and to refresh and enhance the knowledge and skills of those in practice."

Other forthcoming textbooks to be integrated include flagship publications in ultrasonography, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and a well-known medical dictionary. The agreement with Elsevier opens the possibility for expanding the relationship into other specialty areas as well. According to Challenger CEO and President Bob Sweeney, “This agreement should be highly beneficial to our revenues over the next several years. It reflects the confidence of major publishers that Challenger is a partner of high quality and reliability for their marketing and publishing requirements.”

Challenger owns the world’s largest collection of approved electronic CME media with over 2,050 approved hours of credit.
