Goodman-Bryan Promoted to President as Challenger Restructures Business Divisions
Memphis, TN 01/01/07 -Memphis-based education and training firm, Challenger Corporation, announced today that Laura Goodman-Bryan has been promoted from Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President to President. Current CEO and President Bob Sweeney will retain the CEO title and function, while shifting to a primary emphasis on raising equity and developing key relationships. Goodman-Bryan will be responsible for managing and running the enterprise.
Goodman-Bryan first served as a consultant to Challenger in their acquisition of selected assets of Healthyme.md, Inc., a Memphis physician Web hosting company. She joined the firm full-time in October 2002 as Vice-President of Operations. Since then, she has been promoted twice to increasing levels of responsibility in management of personnel, cash flow, marketing, and operations. The promotion to President is effective January 1, 2007.
"Laura has succeeded in building a competent operational team, organizing and implementing systems for direct marketing and product fulfillment, and executing a complex cost-management policy," according to Chairman of the Board and Chief Financial Officer David Beard. "She has gained the confidence of our other senior management and the majority shareholder interest, while undertaking the daunting tasks of systems and personnel integration, staff restructuring, and the shift to a sales and marketing focus. In addition, she has developed effective interactions with our Board of Directors and Physicians Advisory Board."
A native of Memphis, Goodman-Bryan spent ten years with John Hancock Property and Casualty in Boston, where she also earned an MBA degree at Boston University. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Central High School in Memphis. Prior to joining Challenger, she was an operational and data management executive with Towery Publishing before its sale in 2002.
Simultaneously, Challenger also announced an internal restructuring into three business divisions: Challenger Medical Publishing, focused on sales and services to retail clinical customers; Challenger Institutional Sales and Services; and Challenger Business Functions, providing support and fulfillment for the first two divisions. According to CEO and Board Member Bob Sweeney, "This structural change will ensure that our staff is focused on the needs and expectations of the physician and physician assistant markets that we serve. Above all, Challenger Corporation has built its reputation on a foundation of impeccable attention and service to physicians and their colleagues. As we grow to become the standard-setter in terms of institutional training and evaluation, we must adapt to ensure that our mission stays engaged with our standards."
