Challenger Program for Residencies™ Expands into Internal Medicine

Memphis, Tennessee, 01/18/06 - Challenger Corporation announced today that it had been selected by its first two clients in the specialty of internal medicine to provide training content and management information reporting for their residency programs. The new clients are Morristown Memorial Hospital in the Atlantic Health System and the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University. The Department of Medicine at Morristown adopted the Challenger course in acute care radiology for its residents in training, while the Chicago Medical School selected the Challenger internal medicine review course.

With these selections, Challenger becomes the first national company to serve a full range of primary and acute care specialties for resident training.

The Challenger institutional client base includes over forty programs in family or general medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine and internal medicine, as well as three programs engaged in the training of physician assistants. The financial terms were confidential, but "accretive to our revenues," according to Challenger CEO and President, Bob Sweeney.

Challenger owns the world's largest collection of approved electronic CME media, comprising over 3,700 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other clinicians rely upon Challenger materials to prepare for specialty board exams, recertification, maintenance of certification, and lifelong learning. Challenger serves the educational and training needs of over 400,000 practicing American primary care and hospital-based physicians and nearly 70,000 physician assistants. Challenger products are approved for physician CME credit through joint sponsorships with nine medical schools and specialty societies.

According to Challenger Director for Business Development, Becca A. Metzger, who negotiated these agreements, "we are delighted to obtain a foothold in internal medicine, which together with its subspecialties, is the practice domain for over 100,000 American physicians. We hope to build franchises in internal medicine and women's health that are comparable in reputation to our parallel offerings in emergency and family medicine. Challenger continues to work hand-in-hand with the leaders of acute and primary care education to meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for focused, measurable, and productive outcomes in the training of young physicians."
