Challenger Introduces Unique High Risk Medicine Training Curriculum
Memphis, Tennessee, 10/26/06 - Challenger Corporation announced today the release of the first module in the Challenger High Risk Medicine series. High risk medicine is an emerging cross-specialty discipline that identifies specific clinical and legal risks for physicians and other clinicians in the areas of diagnosis, initial treatment, and documentation.
The new release focuses on seven critical acute care presentations with a validated high risk of misdiagnosis, poor outcomes, and above average litigation risk. Future modules in the series, to be released at approximately six month intervals, will address additional acute care clinical conditions, office-based clinical risks for primary care physicians, documentation shortcomings, courtroom preparation and testimony, and litigation analysis. A key distinctive feature of the series will be a provider rating of the end physician user's likelihood of delivering inadequate care and incurring associated litigation risk, based on his or her test performance and comparison to a statistically valid user population. "I founded Challenger to create courses like this one for practicing physicians," said Dan Jones, MD. "Challenger High Risk Medicine is the only program I know of that both educates and evaluates physicians on their recognition of these difficult presentations."
The first module in the series is authored by Andrea Cecilia Eberly, MD, Former Director, Emergency Medicine, Guam Memorial Hospital. Up to 70 AMA Category 1 CME credits will be available in the completed series from Vanderbilt University. Tyler Barrett, MD, and Corey Slovis, MD, FACEP, recognized national experts in high risk medical education, serve as formal reviewers for the series content. Dr. Slovis is also a member of the Physicians Advisory Board for Challenger Corporation. The Challenger Physician Advisory Board consists of nine academic and practice experts representing emergency medicine, family practice, pathology, anesthesiology, and pediatrics, as well as the physician assistant profession.
Challenger owns the world's largest collection of approved electronic CME media, comprising over 3,800 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other clinicians rely upon Challenger materials to prepare for specialty board exams, recertification, maintenance of certification, and lifelong learning. Challenger serves the educational and training needs of over 400,000 practicing American primary care and hospital-based physicians and nearly 70,000 physician assistants. Challenger products are approved for physician CME credit through joint sponsorships with eight medical schools and specialty societies.
