Prominent Risk Management Expert Appointed to Challenger Advisory Board
Memphis, TN 05/20/07 - Memphis-based education and training firm, Challenger Corporation, announced today that Gayle Galan, MD, a prominent Akron-based risk management expert, has been appointed to its Physician Advisory Board. Dr. Galan will serve as a primary advisor on risk management in both acute and primary care medicine. She will oversee development of a unique Challenger course addressing the clinical, systemic, and legal aspects of complex and hard-to-diagnose medical presentations.
Dr. Galan is the Chairman of Medical Education in the Emergency Medicine Division of Southwest General Hospital, based in Akron, OH. She is also Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Northeastern Ohio College of Medicine and Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. In 2002, she was named Medical Director of the Year by Emergency Professional Services. She is also a primary risk management trainer for Team Health, the largest emergency medicine contract company in the United States.
Dr. Galan earned her BA and MD from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She is a member of American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Emergency Physicians, and the Cleveland Academy of Medicine.
According to Bob Sweeney, Challenger Chief Executive Officer and Member, Board of Directors, "Gayle Galan is one of the three or four leading instructors nationally in preparing physicians for the diagnosis, treatment, and disposition of high risk medical cases, and their aftermath in the risk control and legal environments. We are very pleased to attract such an eminent forensic expert to direct and monitor our emerging Challenger High Risk Medicine series. Less than 10% of clinical cases represent more than 90% of poor outcomes and subsequent litigation; this is an area where the accurate training and testing of our primary and acute care physician audience is critical to maintaining world leadership for American clinical standards. Dr. Galan will ensure that Challenger continues to be in the forefront of testing and training innovations of this kind."
Challenger owns the world's largest collection of approved electronic CME media, comprising over 3,800 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other clinicians rely upon Challenger materials to prepare for specialty board exams, recertification, maintenance of certification, and lifelong learning. Challenger serves the educational and training needs of over 400,000 practicing American primary care and hospital-based physicians and nearly 70,000 physician assistants. Challenger products are approved for physician CME credit through joint sponsorships with eight medical schools and specialty societies. They are also used for institutional training in over fifty major residency and physician assistant training programs across the United States.
