Challenger Program for ResidenciesTM Expands Reach in Texas Family Medicine Residencies

Memphis, Tennessee, 07/19/06 - Challenger Corporation announced today that it had been selected by CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital's Family Medicine Residency of Corpus Christi to provide training content and management information reporting for their residency program. CHRISTUS Spohn purchased the full Challenger content library and performance evaluation system for their residents and faculty. CHRISTUS Spohn becomes the fifth Challenger family medicine residency client in the state of Texas. Challenger also serves Memorial Hermann Hospital System in Houston, Darnall Army Community Hospital at Ft. Hood, the Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe, and the University of Texas at Tyler. The Challenger Program for Residencies client base includes nearly fifty programs in family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. The financial terms of the agreement were confidential, but "favorable to both parties," according to Challenger CEO and President, Bob Sweeney.

Challenger owns the world's largest collection of approved electronic CME media, comprising over 3,800 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other clinicians rely upon Challenger materials to prepare for specialty board exams, recertification, maintenance of certification, and lifelong learning. Challenger serves the educational and training needs of over 400,000 practicing American primary care and hospital-based physicians and nearly 70,000 physician assistants. Challenger products are approved for physician CME credit through joint sponsorships with 11 medical schools and specialty societies.

According to Challenger Director of Business Development, Becca A. Metzger, who negotiated the agreement, "We are delighted to have obtained such a significant inroad with family medicine residencies in Texas. At this point, we work with close to 20% of the Texas family residency market. As we become better known, our unique content and measurement platform will sell itself. One of the real advantages of the Challenger approach is that client institutions can use our one-of-a-kind content library and performance evaluation system in tandem with a variety of commercial residency scheduling approaches or with Challenger's own eResidency scheduling solution. We can tailor our offering to the requirements of the customer."

Challenger continues to work hand-in-hand with the leaders of acute and primary care education to meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for focused, measurable, and productive outcomes in the training of young physicians.
