Challenger Corporation Releases First Program in Educational Venture with Boston University

Memphis, Tennessee. 11/04/03. Memphis-based medical software firm, Challenger Corporation, today announced the rollout of the first of two dozen courses to be developed and produced in conjunction with Boston University School of Medicine. The series of courses are CD-ROM and Internet-based curricula derived from the well-known Core Curriculum in Adult Primary Care Medicine seminars directed by Michael K. Rees, Department of Internal Medicine, Harvard University. Challenger has begun marketing the initial course, Gastro/CC: An Adult Core Curriculum Course in Gastroenterlogy for Primary Care Physicians, throughout the New England states and will expand distribution to a nationwide basis in 2004.

Dr. Rees has been offering his prestigious seminars in the Boston area for the last decade. In 2002, Challenger acquired the rights to produce the after-event versions of these courses from Healthstream, a Nashville-based education and training firm. Challenger then entered an agreement with the Boston University Office of CME and Dr. Rees. Under this agreement, Boston University provides continuing medical education (CME) credit for physicians who successfully complete training on the Challenger CD-ROMs or on the Internet. Dr. Rees remains responsible for organizing and conducting the live seminars on which the courses are based. The financial terms are confidential. Future courses will cover the full range of clinical topics in primary care and internal medicine.

“We are elated to have the opportunity to join forces with a truly national figure in clinical education such as Dr. Rees, and to expand our network of medical university joint sponsors to include Boston University,” observed Laura Goodman-Bryan, Challenger’s Chief Operating Officer. “These course additions should prove particularly beneficial for sales of our Challenger Lifetime Subscriptions, our flagship product offering in the United States physician marketplace.”

Challenger owns the world’s largest collection of approved electronic CME media with over 2000 approved hours of credit. Thousands of physicians and other clinicians rely upon Challenger material to prepare for specialty board exams, re-certification, and continuous competency testing; to fulfill ongoing CME requirements; and to provide reference and patient-care decision support. Challenger products are approved for physician CME credit through joint sponsorships with several prominent medical schools and specialty societies.
