However, customers may opt to receive online access only, saving 15% on their purchase price as well as shipping and handling charges. Just enter coupon code "ONLINEONLY" during checkout and we'll forego the CD-ROM shipment, discount your purchase 15%, and set you up with an online account for anywhere, anytime access to your purchased program(s). What is included in the purchase of a comprehensive Med-Challenger program?

A comprehensive program includes the full set of Questions and Answers, as well as pedagogical content for that specialty; one free atlas of the buyer’s choice; free AMA Category 1 CME credits; a boards pass guarantee; and a free online subscription.

What is the format of Challenger programs? Are they mainly question and answer or mainly textual?

That depends on the program. If a course presumes the user already has basic proficiency in the subject matter, then the course will "front load" cases and questions & answers. The didactic material will be in the corrections or remediation. Therefore, our boards review courses (the comprehensive Med-Challenger programs) and some of our smaller programs tend to be question and answer based. Many of our special atlas or series courses on the other hand, have more text and a more didactic style. The user is not presumed to already have expert knowledge. Examples include the programs with integrated textbooks and many of our atlas programs such as Challenger Integrative Health Care and the ADHD module of Challenger Pediatric Psychiatry. Our Core Curriculum series is lecture-based, reflecting the courses from which these products are adapted. Our orthopedics atlases, cesarean delivery product, and EM Ultrasound course all have video content.

Can I use this program on a Mac?

Yes. While we do not offer a CD version of our courses for Macs in native mode, our many Mac users still enjoy easy access to content via their Challenger Online Account. The Challenger Interactive Viewer (CIV) works on Macs with a compatible internet browser such as Netscape 7.0.1 or later OR Mozilla Firefox 1.x or later. At your request, we will include a Windows-only CD-ROM with your purchase. There is no difference between the CD-ROM and online account coursework. Call 1-800-676-0822, ext. 617, for details.

An exception to the above is the Challenger EM Ultrasound product. It is a "Disc-Only" course and will run on either a Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or a Macintosh OS X personal computer.

NOTICE:

Running a Challenger CD-ROM on a Macintosh computer requires third party software that runs a supported version of the Windows operating system in a virtual environment. The only software currently available is Virtual PC 7 for the Macintosh from Microsoft and Parallels Desktop for Mac from Parallels.

PowerPC-based Macintosh: (G4 and G5)

Virtual PC 7 for Macintosh is software designed to run the Windows operating system in a virtual machine on a Mac running OS X. Virtual PC 7 can be purchased by itself or with a Windows operating system already included. Such versions of Virtual PC 7 can be purchased with either Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home, or Windows 2000 Professional already included. They are the only versions of Windows that are supported by Microsoft for the Mac environment. It is possible to install some other "unsupported" versions of Windows into Virtual PC 7, but it requires that you already own a licensed version of the unsupported Windows operating system that you want to install.

Microsoft's Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 is still the best emulation solution for users who have PowerPC-based Macs, but it does not run on Intel-based Macs. Microsoft currently has no plans to release a version of Virtual PC for the Mac/Intel platform.

Challenger has tested Virtual PC 7 for Mac with Windows XP Professional and found it to be suitable for running the Challenger program from a CD-ROM. Performance will vary depending on the configuration of your Macintosh computer.

See the Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 systems requirements to help you decide if you can install and run Virtual PC 7 on your Mac.

Intel-based Macintosh:
Intel based Macintosh computers have two choices: the Mac OSX - "Leopard" which now contains "Boot Camp" and the "Parallels® Desktop for Mac".

Mac OS X - "Leopard"
The latest version of the Mac OS X is "Leopard". Leopard contains the program called "Boot Camp" which will allow the boot drive to be partitioned and a supported version of Windows installed. Boot Camp supports the most popular 32-bit releases of Windows XP and Windows Vista. When you use either operating system on your Mac, your Windows applications will run at native speed. Windows applications have full access to multiple processors and multiple cores, accelerated 3D graphics, and high-speed connections like USB, FireWire, Wi-Fi, and Gigabit Ethernet.
More information about this product can be found at Apple's Boot Camp Web page.

Parallels® Desktop for Mac
Parallels® Desktop for Mac is software that lets you run Windows and other operating systems together with their applications in virtual machines side-by-side with the Mac OS® X on Intel®-based Macintosh® computers.
More information about this product can be found at Parallels® Desktop for Mac 3.0.
See the Parallels® Desktop for Mac systems requirements to help you decide if you can install and run Parallels® Desktop on your Mac.

Will the anti-SPAM, ad supressor, or "pop-up blocker" software on my computer interfere with the function of Challenger programs?

This software may interfere with the proper function of Challenger's programs. Temporarily disabling your spam or pop-up blocking sofware should allow your Challenger program to function correctly. See our Technical FAQs page.

Challenger technical support can assist you in doing this or you can consult the user documentation that came with your spam or pop-up program.

As a last resort, you may need to consult the vendor's technical support. No matter which option you choose, temporarily supressing this software while running your Challenger program will not affect the security of your computer system.

NOTE: A popup blocker is contained within Internet Explorer 6 - sp2, Internet Explorer 7, Netscape Navigator 8.x, and Firefox 2.x browsers. Anti-SPAM and popup window blockers may also be contained within installed browser toolbars such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, NetZero ...etc. If you are running an Internet Security suite such as Norton or McAfee, then you probably have anti-SPAM and popup window blockers in these applications.

What new programs are scheduled to debut?

In 2007 and early 2008, we plan to release integrated textbooks for reference and review in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine; new programs in the Adult Core Curricula, Med-Challenger for General Surgery, and new modules to complete the Challenger High Risk Medicine series.

Do all programs include CME in the price?

Generally yes, but there are some exceptions. Please see the information for individual products on this site for CME details.

Do the questions in the learning assessments (tests) randomize?

Questions are randomized within each assessment and the order of the answers in each question are randomized as well. Each assessment contains 20 questions as a norm. There can be multiple assessments for any specific topic. Challenger keeps the number of questions per assessment at this number for user flexibility. When you start an assessment, you need to finish the topic to get accurate scores. If Challenger were to create a single assessment with 100+ questions, for example, you might time out, get interrupted, get bored, whatever, and thus might feel frustrated having been "trapped" into a lengthy time commitment without any tangible reward.

In the Practice and Review sections, questions remain in in-line order. Since users usually toggle back and forth from the Practice and Review tabs, the questions in these sections are kept static in order to "match up."

How long is my program good for CME accumulation?

CME is good for a time period equal to the approval period of the indicated joint sponsor, typically 2 to 5 years. Of course, over time, any medical content loses its currency. Since our courses are continually updated, we recommend that you upgrade your course periodically to ensure that you are working with the most current information.

Who writes the questions on the Challenger programs?

Challenger programs are designed and written by clinical consultants who are specialists in their fields, highly regarded as clinical educators and practicing clinicians. Most programs are prepared in a peer-reviewed process by teams of physician consultants. Generally, a designated editor correlates this work, and several other clinicians write and review questions and content. Courses are subsequently updated and maintained to insure currency and consistency with changing standards of care. The quality and integrity of our entire product line is overseen by our eminent Physician Advisory Board.

How often are your programs updated?

The frequency of updates varies by program. Reviews and updates are frequent and ongoing for such topics as drug therapy, neurological disorders, and infectious disease mechanisms. Where the standard of care is more static, reviews are periodic but scheduled at longer intervals.

What does the boards pass guarantee entail and which programs have it?

Click here to see the details of our Boards-Pass Guarantee.

How many people can use one program?

Any number of people can use one program to STUDY, but only the registered buyer can get a Boards-Pass Guarantee or earn CME from a given program.

What types of shipping do you offer?

We offer standard shipping with USPS priority mail (3-5 business day delivery) for $20 s/h. We offer FedEx second day delivery for $27 s/h. We offer next afternoon FedEx delivery for $40 s/h. Saturday delivery is $55. FedEx will not ship to PO Boxes. International shipping is typically $75. Prices for international rush shipping can be quoted at the time of purchase.

Do you sell any hard copies or books?

We do not offer hard copies of the Challenger products. We offer several textbooks for sale separately from our programs.

So, everything is included in the Lifetime Subscription?

Yes. You get all current and future programs, yearly CME, all upgrades and a free online subscription with the purchase of a Challenger Lifetime Subscription (CLS). There are two subscription options currently, one that includes integrated text and review courses and one that does not. The only additional fees you ever have to pay are the direct licensing fees from third party publishers when we include their intellectual property in our integrated courses. These organizations include Elsevier, Inc., Landes BioSciences and others. The fees vary.

What happens if I buy a Lifetime Subscription and you go out of business?

While no company can guarantee that it will last forever, Challenger has been in business for over 16 years and see no signs of the business going under. We are likely to be here as long as there are physicians in need of our programs, and that is likely to be indefinitely.

How come the CLS is so expensive?

Well, when you break it down, it isn’t so expensive. If you were going to buy our entire library individually it would cost you over $17,000 and, to remain current, you would want to upgrade that every two years for 35% of the cost. So, the current price is actually a huge discount. You are getting all the CME and educational review materials that you will ever need, for the length of your practice, in one payment. It works out to less than two dollars per credit hour.

Since I already have one of your major programs, could you give me some discount on the Lifetime Membership?

Yes, a Challenger Representative can help you to research your current account information. Please call us at 1-800-676-0822, ext. 617. In general, we will credit purchases made in the last 12 months or less to your Lifetime price.

If I refer fellow physicians to you, could you send me one of your programs for free?

Yes, if you send a referral who purchases a program from us and lists you as the source of the referral, we will send you one of our atlas programs at no cost to you. Call us at 1-800-676-0822, ext. 617, and give us the referral contact information. We'll do the rest!!!

What is the difference between the Challenger Lifetime Subscription and a Specialty Lifetime Subscription?

The Challenger Lifetime Subscription (CLS) includes all of the programs in Challenger's library: i.e., all Challenger Comprehensive, Series and Atlas products, all updates, and any new programs that are released including all of Challenger's specialty and cross-specialty products. The Specialty Lifetime Subscription (SLS) includes lifetime access to the specialty-specific products in your specialty area plus all updates of that material. It does not include Challenger Comprehensive products in other specialties or Challenger cross-specialty Series or Atlas programs, nor does it include new titles released in the future. The SLS is designed for those physicians who want continuous up-to-date access to Challenger's best-selling board review material in their specialty and the CME associated with it, but do not want access to Challenger's full range of products. Shipping charges are waived for the purchase of either a SLS or CLS. The SLS and CLS both include free technical support and all the associated CME credit for life. If you purchase the SLS and decide to upgrade to the CLS within twelve months of your original purchase, we will credit the price you paid for your SLS towards your purchase of the CLS.
