Case Studies and Images for Primary and Acute Care Physicians

25% of Office Visits Are Related to Skin Disorders
The coverage you need...
Primary Care and Emergency Medicine physicians are the patient's gateway for dermatologic diseases. Studies have found that up to 25% of all office and hospital visits are related to skin disorders. This fact alone explains why 15% or more of the boards involve image interpretation.

You need a dermatology reference which provides you with the quality review you need, especially since a majority of physicians say that residency training in dermatology is either inadequate or "only enough to get by." The paradox of dermatology is that generally easy access for visual inspection is rarely an aid to the undertrained eye.

What you need is a comprehensive image reference that is of the highest quality, one that provides many different presentations of the same or similar diseases.

Visual Examination Trumps Biopsy in Detection of Skin Cancers!
Save time, money, and patient discomfort...
Only one in a hundred biopsies performed results in the detection of a melanoma. And, "that's if dermatologists are trained to know what they are looking for," according to board certified and residency trained dermatologist Harold S. Rabinowitz, MD, who currently serves as Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Miami.

It turns out that visual identification of cancerous skin growths can dramatically reduce the number of needless excisions that physicians perform. Having a training program would save you and your patients time and money, while avoiding needless patient pain and discomfort.

That's why Challenger Corporation is proud to be the producer of Derm-Challenger, the best program of its type available for the very purpose of visual diagnosis of skin disorders.

Derm-Challenger Holds the Key to Quality Image Review
With features you won't find anywhere else...
Derm-Challenger begins with an examination of the structure and function of the skin, then builds on that base to discuss and illustrate, with over 600 high-resolution case-study images, the anatomic and physiologic alterations that occur in skin diseases. Using Derm-Challenger, you'll be exposed to over 250 challenging questions and answers and 100 case studies that deal with over 80 common dermatologic problems. And as you increase your knowledge and sharpen your diagnostic acumen, you'll earn up to 57.5 AMA Category 1 CME credits. Derm-Challenger is simply the best dermatology reference for primary care and emergency room physicians. In addition to a case-based study guide for major skin disorders, you also receive:
  • 57.5 AMA Category 1 CME credits
  • well-designed case studies of primary and acute care presentations
  • a pre-test to test proficiency
All of this adds up to an incredible value, not available in any printed reference text.

Look More Closely at What Interests You
An extraordinary reference...
Derm-Challenger offers full-color image galleries with over 600 high-resolution images. These "zoomable images" allow you to look closely at features of the presentation that are of interest to you. They also can be clipped and inserted in other documents or saved for later use.

Ranging from basic identification of lesion types and dermatologic terminology to complex differentiation (for example, amelanotic melanoma, malignant melanoma, dysplastic nevus and melanoma, and regressive malignant melanoma), Derm-Challenger presents you with challenging case studies.

The cases are geared towards presentations that a primary care or emergency medicine doctor will see in a hospital or office environment. Insect bites, drug reactions, HIV and STD complications, pediatric presentations of skin disorders where the presentation is typically differentiated from adult presentations; Derm-Challenger has it all.

Study At Your Own Pace
Don't get pushed around...
Keep time requirements under your control. Save features capture your scores from wherever you are in the course. Work in one topic in the morning, then jump to something completely different in the afternoon. You're not locked into any enforced content order, remote schedule, or lecture circuit with Challenger products, so your valuable review time is used at your discretion.

Interact As You Study
The largest electronic image bank...
Full-color, high-resolution imagery has always been one of the hallmarks of Challenger programs. With over 600 high-resolution case study images, every image is assigned to the appropriate standard-of-care topic, and most can be enlarged for detailed examination and observation. Where specific features of an image are salient for instruction, overlays point to items being illustrated. Move your mouse over the image below to see a caption.

Dyshidrotic Hand Eczema

This patient with dyshidrotic hand eczema has had this intensely pruritic recurrent eruption between her fingers for many years. It is often worse under her ring. Note the numerous small vesicles and peeling. Intraepidermal edema from acute eczema loculates into small vesicles over the hands and feet to produce dyshidrosis or pompholyx.

Henoch-Schonlein Purpura - Foot & Ankle Findings

Henoch-Schonlein purpura. Note the classic petechial lesions and the peri-articular thickening around the ankles. Similar findings could be seen in other forms of leukocytoclastic vasculitis.

Dermatitis Herpetiformis

Small, clustered vesicles and crusts concentrated over the elbows, knees, and lower back are characteristic of dermatitis herpetiformis, an autoimmune disease.
